Director Director N Shankar, with a record of films such as ‘Jayam Manadera’, ‘Sri Ramulayya’ and ‘Jai Bolo Telangana’, disappoints with ‘2 Countries’, a remake of the Malayalam hit film of the same name.

Ullas (Sunil) is fickle-minded and is ready to do anything to earn money. He cannot return a loan he has taken from a rich landlord (Sayaji Shinde) and agrees to marry his disabled sister. Then he gets an NRI proposal and the girl Laya (Manisha Raj) is richer, so Ullas decides to marry her.

After they are married Ullas realises that Laya is an alcoholic and stubborn. The landlord is trying to kill Ullas for cheating him. Ullas then goes to the US.

Shankar’s remake simply does not measure up to the Malayalam original. The actors are miscast, especially Sunil, who is going through a lean patch. Manisha Raj’s inexperience shows.

Except Srinivas Reddy, who provides a few laughs here and there, and Prudhvi, there are no redeeming features apart from the cinematography in foreign locales.
